A pine is a Pine… unless it’s not a pine at all. We often refer to all cone shaped evergreen as pine trees but Sometimes that’s just not fair! There are many popular species of trees that make an ideal umbrella for your christmas gifts, including fir, spruce, many types of pine and others. Each has unique characteristics, pros and cons that can be considered when choosing this year (or next years) tree.
First, What makes a pine a pine? The leaves of all pines are needle-like and arise from the stem in bundles, called fascicles. These bundles usually contain three or five needles but some species’ bundles can have up to eight needles. This is one sure fire way to identify a pine species.
